Spur Tip of the Day - Part 15

In today's daily rugby tip - brought to you by Spur Steak Ranches - we look at the importance of a good body position at scrum-time.

Although many people may believe that scrummaging is about power alone, a player with a superior technique will often overcome someone who has plenty of brute force without knowing how to use it effectively.

It is important to keep your back straight, with your shoulders just above your hips and to bend your knees so that you can 'spring' forward as you drive your opponent back.

An effective drill which teaches this technique is the one-on-one scrum. Players should pair up with teammates of similar size and scrum each other, giving the coach a chance to take a look at their techniques and make slight adjustments where required.
