In today's daily rugby tip - brought to you by Spur Steak Ranches - we stress the importance of binding correctly at scrum-time.
Scrums can be very dangerous if the right technique is not used as there is plenty of pressure being applied, especially if the scrum collapses, and unless your pack is bound tightly together you can run the risk of causing serious injury.
The front row should be shoulder-to-shoulder and bound on the lower part of the jersey. If this is not done correctly then the intial "hit" can be quite dangerous. The locks should be in communication with the front row to ensure that the scrum is well co-ordinated and that the tight five get their timing right.
The loose trio play an important role in supporting the tight five and they should not be merely looking to see how early they can break from the scrum but ensuring that the big guys up front have a stable base and do not take a backwards step.
