On March 13th and 14th, 2010 Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas hosted the 11th Annual Jesuit Dallas Showdown. The school opened up its facilities to teams from across the southern states and Mexico. As always the tournament was treated to some great weather (temperature averaging in the 70’s each day) and some fabulous High School Rugby.

Over the course of the past few months many teams throughout the southern states and as far as Canada had expressed interests in attending this year’s Showdown. Conflicting schedules and SAT’s forced many teams to not attend this year’s event with concerns of traveling with a less than competitive side. A last minute withdrawal from the tournament and no local replacement available found the Jesuit JV (“B” Side) filling in as the 8th and final team for the tournament.

Jesuit Dallas and Plano Schools Rugby met in the final to decide this year’s champion.  As always this was a great final and a rematch of the league game which the two teams had played less than 4 weeks earlier which Jesuit won by a score of 28 – 24. Both teams had some great rugby to show the crowd and other participants from the event. Though Jesuit prevailed by a score of 51 – 17, the score was not an indication of how hard the match was fought on both sides of the ball. On a much more somber note, the Jesuit Rugby community would like to pay its respect to the family of Mark Carrion (Dallas Harlequin Old Boy) the father of Alec and Dylan Carrion (Plano scrumhalf / winger), Mark passed away last week and Dylan had an amazing tournament in honor of his father.

As always no event could be successful without the help of volunteers; Jesuit Rugby would like to thank the members and parents of the Jesuit Rugby Booster Club, athletic department, work grant students, Texas Rugby Referees Association and especially to the tournament sponsors Knockout Sportswear who not only designed the tournament t-shirts but also supplied the tournament with a new set of jerseys for whoever won the championship.

Teams interested in attending this event next year on March 12th & 13th, 2011 should contact Anthony Mattacchione (amattacchione@jesuitcp.org) at their earliest as teams from Mexico and Canada have already expressed interest. Below are the match results and Man of the Match for each.
