The National Senior Women’s Sevens team ended an excellent Las Vegas International Women’s Sevens Tournament in Las Vegas, NV on top, winning the championship finals 14 -5 over the host US team.

This victory, the Canadian team has won their last five major international tournaments, marked the second year in a row they have captured the Las Vegas International Women’s Sevens Tournament title.

With tries from Mandy Marchak and Ghislaine Landry, the squad were able to overpower the Americans with strong pressure at the breakdown and brilliant counter-attacking play.

Notching converted tries in each half, Ashley Steacy scoring conversions on both tries, the Canadian team took control of the game early and never gave it up until time had expired.

Expectations were high and lots of hunger to walk away with their second straight Vegas title, the team went into the tournament focused on a goal and came away with exactly what they wanted to achieve.

"This win means a lot. This is just where we want to be going into Hong Kong,” said Coach John Tait adding they wanted to use this tournament to perfect Canada’s system and plays.

Having accomplished yet another important milestone, on their road to the 2013 World Cup of Sevens and beyond towards the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Canada's women can enjoy the bright lights of Las Vegas tonight, confident that they have done their country proud.
