Kellock plays down leadership role
2010-07-25 17:15:02

Scotland skipper Alastair Kellock has played down his performance in his country's historic 13-9 victory over Argentina last month.

The Scots produced a superb battling display to secure their first ever southern hemisphere victory, despite having a number of players out injured.

And although Kellock was widely praised for his performance, the Warriors lock was quick to praise his team-mates for their attitude shown at the Estadio Jose Maria Minella.

The 29-year-old said: "I heard that the likes of John Beattie and Andy Nicol commentating on the two games were giving me credit for my 'leadership' but to be honest, it's what I've been doing ever since I joined Glasgow four years ago.

"Nothing much has changed in that respect although I have been working on my own game constantly because every player wants to improve with each game.

"The key aspect to our success in Argentina was that the whole pack functioned as a single strong unit - nothing to do with how I performed as an individual.

"The back-row of the two Johns (Beattie jnr and Barclay) and Kelly (Brown) have gained great credit for their displays for Glasgow and they showed they are very effective when playing for Scotland.

"The Edinburgh boys made a terrific contribution but a special mention must be made of my Glasgow team-mate Moray Low who showed in Argentina that he has come of age and can mix it with the best of them."
